Healing Times

General Issues

There are some general things to consider that will effect how long your pierce takes to heal. As you can influence these ones yourself it is generally best to do as much as possible to help a new pierce settle. The figures given are only a rough guide - how long it takes depends on the individual, therefore it makes sense to influence as many factors as you can.

Health

A pierce is essentially an injury to your body. How quickly your body recovers from that depends largely on how healthy it is to start with. If your body is run down or generally unhealthy it won't be able to heal as fast. It is worth noting that zinc is believed to effect healing times and zinc tablets are often supplied as part of the aftercare pack.

Care

How you treat your pierce will effect its healing. You will need to be prepared to look after it until it is fully healed - which can be as long as a year in some cases. You will need to avoid touching it with dirty hands and other sources of infection. You will need to avoid irritating it either with too tight clothes or through playing sports. You are also recommended to stay out of public swimming pools and the ocean which are not always the cleanest of environments.
